Task One: Listening
You will listen to a short report on being a foreign student in the US and answer some questions.
Go to the website Voice of America News
Listen to the whole recording one time before reading the questions below.
Answer the questions below on your handout sheet.
- Where is Washington University located? How many students are there? What percent are international students?
- What departments are there are at Washington University? Which of these schools/programs is the largest?
- What is the cost of attending for the coming year?
- What financial help is available to international students? What can international students generally NOT get?
- When was the school established? What was the original name?
Task Two: Pronunciation Recording
Your teacher will give you a handout with a paragraph and several questions. You are going to record yourself reading the paragraph, and answer the questions. This will help me understand what sounds and pronunciation issues you need to work on.
1) Read the paragraph at the top of the handout.
2) Answer the questions briefly at the bottom of the handout
Think about the questions before you record your conversation, but you must not write down what you are going to say.
